RUN WILD! RUN RIVERS!
In 2011, Colorado River & Trail Expeditions (“Crate”) will be celebrating its 40th year in business. Dave and Vicki Mackay founded the company in 1971, because they loved being on the river and wanted to make it their life’s work. It was their intention then, as now, to outfit rafting trips of exceptional quality for folks who longed to escape from the hubbub of everyday living. With the support of smart, fun, and experienced guides, Crate has enabled thousands of people from all the world to travel down the Green and Colorado Rivers through Utah’s magnificent canyon country.
From our operations center in the small rural town of Green River, Utah, we offer rafting trips ranging from 1 day to a week or longer. Every trip is a delightful mix of fun, relaxation, excitement, discovery and adventure. Float, swim, marvel at the geological formations. Experience heart-pounding rapids one minute, and the calmness of quiet waters the next. Hike and explore off river. See Pre-Puebloan ruins and rock art. Play in waterfalls. Enjoy delicious meals, and on multi-day trips, sleep out under the stars. The song of a canyon wren and the call for coffee awaken you to a new day so beautiful, you may think you are still dreaming!
Our best family adventure is a 5-day rafting trip down the Green River through Desolation Canyon. This trip is appropriate for children as young 8 years of age, making it the perfect “multi-generation” river adventure. We also run trips on the Colorado River through Westwater Canyon and Cataract Canyon, both known for exciting whitewater rapids. The minimum age on these trips is 12 years old.
If you are only visiting for a short time, you might enjoy a 1-day trip through Gray Canyon on the Green River. Great scenery, a few small rapids, and a delicious sandwich bar lunch make for a short, but fun, get-away.
